Superman the Vanishing - a Synopsis

Filed under: Adventure, Entertainment Resources, To Read A Book — admin @ 12:21 pm

Written by Brian Azzerello, “For Tomorrow” was a 12 issue storyline in Superman comics. A phenomenon called “the vanishing” causes a million people vanish. Because one of the vanished is Lois Lane, Superman finds himself searching for answers.

Father Daniel Leone is having a crisis. So is Superman, who visits the priest to make a confession about the last year in his life. This series of dialogues dominate the story arc.

Superman tells of a weapon that was used to create the vanishing. Superman mentions ‘the vanishing’ originated in the Middle East and that it occurred while Supes was in orbit helping Green Lantern save the planet. His search for the source of the phenomenon took him to Qurac. Superman disarms both sides in the civil war, but they proceed to brain one another with stones. Superman fights a beastly villain named Equus. Equus is a super-soldier in the army of General Nox. Nox uses the disarmament to seize power in Qurac.

Superman helps Nox rebuild the country. But when he notices Equus about to kill the king with the vanishing weapon, he opposes the insurgents. Equus activates the weapon, taking himself, Nox and several thousand others. Superman takes the weapon.

Meanwhile, Father Leone is dying of cancer. Mr. Orr begins tracking Superman, alternately visiting with Father Leone. And a woman (Halcyon) begins to harry Superman. She magically creates monsters from each of the four elements, including four giants made from Mount Rushmore. The giants threaten to obliterate Earth’s population, allowing the planet to start anew. Superman one-ups the monsters, telling them if Earth’s people are destroyed, he will scorch the Earth so no life can live upon it, then find a new homeworld. Halcyon’s monsters disappear. Wonder Woman shows up in the desert with Halcyon.

Father Leone dreams about Superman, who wants Leone to leap to his doom as a sign of faith, claiming he will then cure Leone’s cancer. Leone does so, but wakes from his dream. Meanwhile, Superman comes upon a Batman-Joker showdown, where the Joker throws a woman off a roof. Superman saves her, then talks to Batman about the ‘disappearance’ of Clark Kent. Batman and he argue as usual.

Halcyon gives Wonder Woman a sword with which to kill Superman. Wonder Woman thinks Superman is going to use the vanishing weapon against himself.

Superman takes Father Leone to the Fortress of Solitude, but refuses to find a cure for cancer. Wonder Woman and Mr. Orr track Superman there. Wonder Woman and Superman battle. Superman activates the vanishing weapon, which causes him and the fortress to disappear. In the aftermath, Mr. Orr takes Father Leone to a CIA center for cancer treatments.

All that is left is for Superman to appear in the vanishing realm. Lois and Clark are there. Lois is picking peaches, and Clark tells Superman he has stopped visiting Lois because he realized Lois loves Superman. Superman visits Lois and the two make sweet love. He realizes the vanishing realm, named Metropia by Lois, is his paradise. Equus attacks Clark. This is the cliffhanger.

Tough and Stylish the North Face Tents

Filed under: Adventure, Great Recreation Tips, University of Products — admin @ 6:22 am

The North Face is an outdoor equipment manufacturing company established in 1968 in San Francisco, California. It manufactures a variety of outdoor products such as tents, backpacks, and sleeping bags to name a few. Their main target customers for their products are mountain adventurers involved in activities like hiking, trekking, rock and mountain climbing etc.

The North Face was established by Douglas Tompkins and Dick Klopp. The name North Face was chosen to symbolize the toughness of the company’s products, as in the northern hemisphere the most difficult climbs are on the north face of a mountain. The North Face logo is a quarter circle with a red background and two lines running within the quarter circle, symbolizing one side of the mountain.

The huge success of The North Face gear is due to the popularity it enjoys among college students and professional mountaineers. The company’s products are generally on the higher end of the price spectrum and this has led to a strong counterfeit market of its products. The counterfeits are, however, very easy to identify as their logos are always somewhat misplaced and the products lack good finishing.

The North Face tents and their other products can be conveniently bought online, from their own website, and from many other major online retailers. But you should go for an online purchase only if you are sure about what you want. In addition to the online stores, The North Face products can also be bought at offline retail stores across the world.

A Magnificent Summer

Filed under: Adventure, Bikes + Bikers, Web Of Travel — admin @ 11:25 am

It?s been an sensational summer up to now. We went on an awesome mountain bike ride through the Sequoia Park. It was an awesome trip, but began with the grueling drive. I had my mtn bike on the back of the car and equipment all packed up the night before. I started the mtn bike ride up alone as I left early from the office. I was on a race against time as I was supposed to meet my buddies at the top of the mountain road, marked by a picnic table, at 8pm. I had to make the timing just right otherwise I would not meet them. If I didnt make it in time, they would come back the next day to find me. The only logical outcome of there is that I would be taking a long nap in my car alone that night if I didnt make it in time

Turns out I made it through traffic and up the hill in time to unhook my bike, crack open a beer and mountain bike ride up and down a couple of little hills before dark and before my buddies would arrive. The fresh air was brilliant and it was nice to be away the city. My Santa Cruz Heckler was in tip top shape and ready to tear up some rails and free riding, fresh out of the shop. Friends arrived beers in hand and ready to show me where the campsite was.

We began our mountain bike ride the next morning, each if us carrying 40lb packs ensuring enough food and water to last at least 12hrs of long hard riding. The first hill was killer and was a rude awakening to a very long bike ride. The crew cranked slowly up for about 2hrs. Making it to the summit was glorious. We took a break and sipped some water from our stainless steel water bottles.

The rest of the day was spent busting tricks, hitting logs and enticing each other to go big. We half a few good breaks in between stopping to eat lunch and have a smoke at the three sisters, what an impressive spot. The terrain was grand and just right for some summertime riding. It was nice to see just a bit of snow left on the ground in certain spots.
